The commander of Ukraine’s navy, Rear Adm. Sergei Haiduk, as well as a
number of civilians have been freed, according to Ukraine’s acting
president, Oleksandr Turchynocv. They had been held at the country’s
navy base in Sevastopol, which was seized by Russian forces and local
Crimean militia. The release came as Ukraine announced plans to withdraw
its troops from Crimea after Russia annexed the territory.
