Four men
have been convicted in Mumbai for the gang rape of a photographer in
August 2013, and will be sentenced on Friday. A fifth male involved is
reportedly underage and is being tried in a juvenile court. The
22-year-old victim was an intern with an English magazine in Mumbai and
had gone to an abandoned textile mill with a male colleague on a photo
assignment when she was attacked. Her colleague was also beaten during
the assault. “The verdict will send a message to the other offenders. It
will be a deterrent,” declared the region’s home minister, RR Patil.
