The communiqué, signed by the Chairman of the council, Kabiru Matazu, also urged the Federal Government and striking lecturers in polytechnics to shift grounds with a view to resolving the prolonged strike.
It added that the strike had brought hardship to the students, parents and other stakeholders with attendant negative consequences on technical and vocational education and the national economy.
The council also called on the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to carry out an upward review of the existing carrying capacity to improve access and quality of technology in the polytechnics and colleges of technology.
It commended the Federal Government’s needs assessment of the polytechnics and urged it to expedite action on the report and commit funds for the improvement of decaying infrastructure in the sub-sector.
It congratulated the new governor of Anambra, Willie Obiano, on his election and swearing-in and commended him for embarking on the special vocational training schemes to empower the youth with functional skills.
It, however, observed the prevailing skills gap and youth unemployment in the country and called on the Federal Government to implement the national vocational qualification framework to address the problem.
